Very Rare Werder Carbine for Bavarian Gendarmerie & Landespolezei 1869.
Werder Carbine: Bavarian Gendarmerie model 1869., No.: 2802. Calibre 11.5x35. Less than 2700 ordered with lock/action parts from Gewehr Fabrik Amberg, passed via M.A.N of Nuremberg, to Amberg for Proof abd then for final assembly to Francotte of Liege, with final inspection at Amberg. There were small further orders for Customs officers (600), border police and a further 50 carbine order for Gendarmerie and Landespolezei. Nearly 700 were later converted, making this unconverted model extremely rare. Bore is bright and sharp. Action is sound and it has the safety which was fitted as standard to this model (unlike the military rifle). Metalwork is generally good, with patina, although there are patches of external pitting. Stock is sound with a few old wormholes and some scuffs to the area around the action and heel of the butt.
